All waste loads are checked and weighed. The handling fee is not only dependent on the weight, but also on the quality –for example, the fee for bringing
in biowaste is only approximately one third of the price for mixed waste.
The most expensive fees are charged for loads that have not been separated –in other words when a load includes both mixed and recyclable waste.

Waste that cannot be recycled is placed in a landfill area. The area is compacted with 40-ton landfill compactors and covered on a daily basis. When the area gets filled up, it is covered –according to regulations– with tightly compressed layers of earth and landscaped.
Water management
Waste water is mainly produced by waste decay and as a result of rain. There is a drainage system under the landfill to lead the water to an equalizing basin. All the soiled waters from the waste treatment centre area are led to an equalizing basin before leading to a municipal waste water treatment plant.
Management of landfill gas
The decay of the waste placed on landfill produces landfill gas. It consists of methane, carbon dioxide, aqueous steam and small amounts of odour-causing sulphur compounds.
Landfill gas is collected with drainage and suction well systems. The gas is burnt in flares at 1,200 C. Burning reduces the greenhouse effect of landfill gas by approximately 95 %, and eliminates odour almost completely. In the future, landfill gas will be utilised in energy production.
